What is the difference between tagging/spotting in Battlefield?

Specifically in Battlefield 3, since that's the one coming out sooner and the one I'm playing.

Also, how do you do both? Thanks. What is the difference between tagging/spotting in Battlefield?
Tagging makes the person/vehicle a lock-on target for RPGS and other explosive launchers. there's no visual cnfirmation when you tag somebody besides the 10 points you get. But when the Stinger or AT4 fires, the rocket will follow the target, but straight, meaning it'll blow up if it hits anything along the way.

Spotting makes a small orange triangle appear over the spotted targets head, making it easier to find a shoot him. However, in BF3, if the target gets behind solid cover, the traingle will dissapear, cuz visual confirmation is gone, and there no UAVS in the area.
