How does Battlefield Bad Company's Skill level work for online play. What makes it go up and down?

How does Battlefield Bad Company's Skill level work for online play. What makes it go up and down? Some times when i don't play for a couple days, i sign back on and it automatically decreases, I've held levels 2 and 3 alot, but i have no idea how it all works.How does Battlefield Bad Company's Skill level work for online play. What makes it go up and down?
it averages your kill ratio and your total points per match and compares it on a global scale to everyone else. you must be really good to have kept rank 2 for a while. it shouldn't automatically decrease at all while your gone, its because you recently did worse than what you used too. ive had rank 2, stopped playing for a couple of weeks and kept my rank. i have about a 3 kill to death ratio and average 40 points per minute.How does Battlefield Bad Company's Skill level work for online play. What makes it go up and down?
